Explore Delhi's 16th-century 'Old Fort', a historic citadel featuring grand gateways, the beautiful Qila-i-Kuhna Mosque, and the famed Sher Mandal tower.
Discover what makes this destination truly special

Purana Qila, translating to 'Old Fort', is one of Delhi's most significant historical sites. As you enter through its massive gateways, like the Bara Darwaza, you step into a sprawling complex of ruins and well-maintained lawns. The fort's rugged sandstone walls enclose key structures from the 16th century. The standout building is the Qila-i-Kuhna Mosque, an impressive example of Indo-Islamic architecture with detailed marble inlay and ornate archways. Nearby stands the Sher Mandal, a two-story octagonal tower that served as a library for the Mughal emperor Humayun, and is tragically known as the place where he fell to his death.
