Discover what makes this destination truly special

Tawang Monastery, also known as Gaden Namgyal Lhatse, stands on a hilltop overlooking the Tawang Chu valley. As the largest monastery in India and the second largest in the world, it functions as a small town for the resident monks. The entire complex is a fortified structure with residential buildings, a library, a museum, and the main temple. The main temple, the Dukhang, is a three-storied building that houses an impressive 8-meter tall gilded statue of Lord Buddha. Visitors can observe intricate murals and thangkas depicting Buddhist deities and teachings on the walls.
